EU Ambassadors Adopt Fourth Package Of Sanctions Against Regime In Belarus Today

Its introduction is accelerated in connection with the forced landing of a Ryanair plane in Minsk.

A committee of permanent representatives of 27 EU countries will agree on a fourth package of EU prohibitive measures against Lukashenka's regime today, reads the June 16 working program of the EU institutions, reports TASS.

Earlier sources in Brussels reported that about 80 individuals and seven legal entities are to be included in the EU blacklist.

This new package of sanctions must be formally approved by the EU Council at the ministerial level for it to take effect. This is expected to happen on June 21, at a meeting of the EU foreign ministers in Brussels.

This package of the EU sanctions has been developed for a long time, but its enactment was accelerated after the incident with the forced landing of a Ryanair aircraft in Minsk.

We remind that on June 10, the European Parliament approved a resolution on Belarus. Apart from political statements, the resolution also refers to the economic sanctions. In particular, the resolution welcomed the disconnection of banks from SWIFT and sectoral sanctions against oil refining, potash and other industries.
