Ukraine May Strengthen Border with Belarus

The former deputy secretary of the NSDC calls for the creation of special troops of territorial defense.

Former first deputy commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Serhiy Kryvonos believes that the threat of an attack from Belarus is real. He told about this to Ukrainski tyzhden.

The former deputy secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) calls for the creation of territorial defense troops in such a case.

Kryvonos emphasizes that now the Armed Forces of Ukraine are "exhausted by the long confrontation with Russia." As a result, there is no way to "take" a certain number of people out of them.

In particular, the National Guard cannot protect the infrastructure of Ukraine. For this purpose, territorial defense forces are needed, and they need to be formed not from regular forces. He also recalled the border of Belarus and Ukraine, which stretches for 1,086 kilometers. Kryvonos is sure that up to 200 groups of special forces can be withdrawn across this border with Belarus to the territory of Ukraine.

Let us remind you that, in June, Kravchuk said that negotiations in Minsk could not continue while Lukashenka was in charge there. Kravchuk considers the holding of new presidential elections in Belarus to be the only way to preserve the negotiating platform in Minsk.

Earlier, Kravchuk named neutral Finland and Switzerland, as well as Hungary, the place where the Budapest Memorandum was signed, as alternative sites. Poland is also ready to become part of the negotiation process to resolve the situation in Donbas.
