Polish President at the UN General Assembly Made Tough Accusations Against Lukashenka

The Belarusian regime is trying to create an artificial humanitarian crisis.

Polish President Andrzej Duda touched upon the migration crisis on the border with Belarus in his speech at the debate of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly. It was held on Tuesday, as the press service of the Polish president reports.

He says Poland has to pay for the support of the Belarusian citizens over the past few months. He believes the response of the Belarusian authorities to this assistance "was an unprecedented hybrid attack on the borders of Poland, Latvia and Lithuania - the three countries on the eastern flank of NATO and the EU".

According to Duda, the Belarusian authorities "bring into their country tens of thousands of determined residents of Middle Eastern states who have been forced by police officers to cross the borders in an attempt to provoke an artificial humanitarian crisis."

"We will not retreat in this crisis because we do not agree to an instrumental approach to migrants, to use their difficult situation as an instrument of action against the security of our borders, borders that we must protect, including as an EU country," Duda said.

Andrzej Duda also notes about 150,000 Belarusians have recently received asylum and work in his country and called on the international community for more solidarity with Belarusians.

"I say this as the leader of the country with about 150 thousand Belarusians who have received asylum and work, including thousands of protesters. I have recently told our Belarusian brothers that they are welcome here and that Poland will be their home as long as they think it is appropriate and necessary. I strongly adhere to these words," he said, speaking at the UN General Assembly.

Andrzej Duda points out that since last August thousands of Belarusians have faced batons, tear gas and even bullets when coming out to peaceful protests. Duda also informed the General Assembly about the sentences of Maria Kolesnikova and Maksim Znak and recalled the representatives of the Polish minorities detained by the Belarusian authorities - Angelika Boris and Andrzej Poczobut.

He demanded their release and called on the international community to show more solidarity with the Belarusian people.

"We demand their release and greater solidarity of the international community with the people of Belarus, who just want an honest state, an honest democracy," he said.
