Hundreds Of 'Ghost Tankers' In Gulf Of Finland Carry Russian Oil

They pose a danger to shipping.

Unidentified tankers ferry oil through the Gulf of Finland in the Baltic Sea after the G7 countries set a $60 price cap and the EU and Britain imposed a ban on sea imports of Russian crude oil.

This is reported by EurActiv.

The restrictions forced Moscow to increase long-distance transportation using dubious ships

Hundreds of tankers in poor technical condition in the already overloaded Gulf of Finland has increased the risks to maritime safety and the environment.

In the event of an accident and oil spill, all ramifications could fall on countries such as Finland and Estonia, as authorities do not know whether "ghost tankers" are properly insured.

Lieutenant Commander Tuomas Luukkonen of the Gulf of Finland Coast Guard expressed the same opinion: "According to our estimates, some of these vessels have a crew that may not have sailed in the area before. This creates the risk of an accident."
