Lithuanian Foreign Ministry Asks International Criminal Court To Investigate Belarus' Involvement In War Crimes In Ukraine

Accomplice Lukashenka will be brought to justice.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis has pointed out in his letter to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Karim Ahmad Khan the need to evaluate the role of Belarus in helping Russia in order to achieve justice and prosecution for war crimes against Ukraine, the press service of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry reports.

"The ICC's decision to issue arrest warrants for Russian President Putin and children's ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova for the crimes of illegally deporting children from the Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine is a welcome step in the process of bringing the perpetrators and organizers of these crimes to justice. The inhumane scale of these crimes requires that other individuals who aided and abetted Russia's war crimes be brought to justice," the letter said.

The head of the Lithuanian diplomacy also provided the ICC prosecutor with detailed information about the involvement of the Belarusian political "elite" and state-owned enterprises in the transfer of children from Ukraine to the territory of Belarus.

In February 2022, Lithuania appealed to the ICC, highlighting the Belarusian regime's complicity in Russia's war against Ukraine.
