Lukashenka’s ‘Purse’ Lost Case On Lifting EU Sanctions

The sanctions regime against the dictator remains in force.

Businessman Aliaksandr Shakutsin, who fell under EU sanctions for being a “purse” of dictator Lukashenka, lost the case in the EU General Court to lift sanctions against him. RFE/RL journalist Rikard Jozwiak reports this.

“A good win for the EU as the sanctions regime against Belarus remains in place and the evidence linking it to Lukashenka remains strong,” he tweeted.

According to Jozwiak, the green light for the 11th package of EU sanctions against Russia may be given today or later this week.

“But there are still issues that need to be ironed out, in particular on the fight against bypassing and the so-called “shame list,” he said.

Earlier, the “deputies” of the “house of representatives” of the National Assembly Sviatlana Lyubetskaya, Aliaksandr Amelyanyuk, Aleh Haidukevich and Deputy Chairman of the Belteleradiocompany Siarhei Husachenka also challenged the European Union sanctions imposed against them, but the European Court dismissed their claims.
