‘Early Sign’: AFU Colonel Told Why It Is Better For Russians To Leave Crimea
PETRO CHERNIK

The panic and fear of the Russians are working for the Ukrainian victory.

On Monday night, July 17, two explosions rocked the Crimean Bridge. One of the spans collapsed and one more came off the pillar, which had at least one hit.

The Charter97.org website asked military analyst, reserve colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Petro Chernik to assess the impact on the bridge.

– What effect did the strike on the bridge have: technical or media?

– It’s really more about media effect, informational and psychological. Let's consider this issue carefully, although there is also a technical problem. At least one section of the bridge has collapsed. in the field of automotive and military logistics, the bridge will not be working for vehicles and military logistics at least until November, but there is one more feature.

– What are you talking about?

– The Crimean peninsula is provided with all the necessary military supplies not through the motorway but through the railway of the bridge. After all, the KamAZ or Ural trucks are capable of carrying no more than 6-10 items of 152 mm shells. The bridge is long - 18 km. Also, we understand that hundreds, if not thousands of trucks are needed to deliver ammunition all the way to the Isthmus of Perekop.

One 50-ton train car takes 500 shells on board, and one train has 30 - 50 cars. During the day, you can drive several such trains. For the past 1.5 years, they have been passing and passing. Therefore, in the direct military sense, the damage caused by the blow is not significant. Sure, there is damage, but quite indirect.

In terms of information, this is a serious slap in the face to Putin personally. After all, the Crimean Bridge is a symbol of his era, his “beloved child”, but it turned out that this sacred goal is vulnerable and it’s possible to target it.

It is also important to note that this is a very serious rise in the level of panic and fear among the local population in Crimea. It showed them that they are unsafe there. If it hits the bridge, it can also hit other military facilities. Where are the guarantees that it will not hit civilian infrastructure?

This blow, firstly, is designed to raise the level of psychological humiliation of Putin personally, as well as to raise the level of panic and fear on the peninsula. Secondly, and most importantly, to show the Russians that they do not have the strength and means to fully protect the bridge. Therefore, let only two objects be damaged, but the goal is achieved. After the first "sign" there will definitely be a second one.

– Panic broke out among Russian tourists. The Russian authorities provide them with alternative routes through the occupied territories. Is this an attempt to hide behind a human shield?

– I don’t think so, because they won’t go along the demarcation line. However, you know my personal philosophy - there are no good Russians.

The more of them who see the horrors of war that they themselves brought to our territory, the better. I do not believe that they will change their mind in terms of humanism. But the fact that they will start to be afraid and fall in panic is very good.

Panic and fear cause mistakes in every possible sense, starting with purely military ones and ending with the creation of an unbearable atmosphere in Russian society. We are happy with it. They must experience the fear that we experience.

– Are they doing the right thing when panicking and leaving the peninsula?

– The more Russians leave the Crimean peninsula, the easier it will be for us to work with the population that will return to us. We understand that the ethnic Russians who have arrived there since the capture of the island will never accept Ukrainian statehood.

This is a civilizational ballast that will create endless problems for the Ukrainian authorities. The more of them get out now, the better for us.
