Paval Kuryanovich fined for “For Independence!” stickers

2

A trial over the Young Front activist Paval Kuryanovich took place in the court of Pershamajski district of Minsk.

The court found the young man guilty of violation of the order of holding mass events and punished him by a fine of 10 basic units (350,000 Br), Radio Svaboda informs.

The activist has explained that he distributed leaflets consciously, as he views that as his right to take part in peaceful rallies.

As we have informed, on May 12 Minsk coordinator of the Young Front Paval Kuryanovich and an activist Viktoryja Ladzis were arrested in Minsk during dissemination of leaflets with information about “For Independence!” march, which is to take place on May 14 at 6 p.m. in October Square.

Viktoryja Ladzis was released in three hours as a minor, and an administrative report was drawn up against Paval Kuryanovich under Article 23.24 “violation of the rules of organizing and holding mass events”. The young activist was kept in the police department the whole night. He refused to eat in the police department, and told that if the court would sentence him to an arrest, he would join the hunger strike of solidarity with political prisoners held by public and political activists of Belarus since May 4.

On May 13 in the court of Pershamajski district of Minsk an administrative trial in the case of the oppositionist started. Judge Leanid Yarmolenka prohibited journalists to make pictures and audio recoding, and then took recess and postponed proceedings in the case on May 14. The young man was released before the trial renewed.
