CSTO to look for Kyrgyz riot initiators

7

The Russian MFA says the CSTO will help Bishkek to find organizers of violence in the south of the country.

“Decisions on rendering assistance to Kyrgyzstan in finding initiators of riots and violence have been made,” head of the Russian MFA Sergei Lavrov said at a press conference in Moscow on Wednesday, Interfax reports.

Lavrov noted that the CSTO would also render material and technical support to law-enforcement agencies and assist in the media field in order to prevent stirring up ethnic hatred in the country.

“We expect these measures to give results. As I’ve already said we will follow the CSTO statutory documents in the future,” the Russian MFA head added.

We remind that deposed president Kurmanbek Bakiyev and his son Maksim are called among those who organized unrest in Kyrgyzstan. The former president of Kyrgyzstan has been given shelter in Belarus. Yesterday, the General Prosecutor’s Office of Belarus refused the request of the temporary Kyrgyz to extradite Bakiyev. Bakiyev said he didn’t plan to return home but was going to start working in industry.

Maksim Bakiyev was arrested in the UK on June 14. He was put on the Interpol wanted list and arrested as a result of a secret operation by the UK Border Agency.

Bakiyev junior is supposed to have been trying to find political asylum in the UK.
