Arrested at Charnobyl Way activists released

Aliaksandr Tarnagurski, Dzmitry Charniak and Ihar Trukhanovich were released from prison after a 10-day arrest.

They were detained after a demonstration, which took place in Minsk on 26 April on the anniversary of the accident at the Charnobyl nuclear power plant.

An activist of the European Belarus civic campaign Aliaksandr Tarnagurski claimed that there were lice in his cell, and the administration of the prison refused to do a sanitary cleansing, Radio Svaboda reports.

He told that during the arrest a person with lice was put in his cell. Later, after the prisoners protested, he was taken out, but the lice already spread onto others. The prison’s administration refused to fulfill the demands of the prisoners and do a sanitary cleansing of the premises and take the things for a so-cold “heating”.

“If you collect two boxes of lice, then we will take your things for a cleansing”, - Tarnagurski quotes a representative of the prison.

Dzmitry Charniak told that there was a prisoner with lice in their cell too.

The released activists were met from prison by some dozen friends and colleagues, including politicians Anatol Labiedzka and Vital Rymasheuski.
