Brest police searches activists for tiding up cemetery

Policemen use pictures of the action’s participants for a crackdown.

The chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front party has received an enquiry from the Interior Affairs Department of Brest regional executive committee. Police asked to provide personal data of the activists captured on a photo to the article about tiding up of Balakhouskiya cemetery.

“After the action they lit candles in memory of killed soldiers, placed a white-red-white flag against the background of one of the graves,” the query stresses, “Belorusskiye novosti” inform.

The document is signed by the deputy chairman of the Interior Affairs department of Leninski district of Brest, A.V. Kugach.

“It is natural that we would not give “identifying information about the citizens” to them. We do not have it, and we are preparing an answer about that,” the message on the account of the Belarusian Popular Front (BNF) in the social networks notes. “But lately the organs of political persecution have stepped up use of participants of rallies in order to carry out repressions. Right now administrative cases against activists of the BNF and other parties from Hrodna, Lida, Kobryn, who had participated in commemoration of insurgents of the year 1863 in Svislach, are opened.”
