Maira Mora praised Lukashenka for guarding of EU borders

Diplomats of the EU countries have visited the Belarusian-Polish border.

On November 5 representatives of the embassies of the EU countries bordering on Belarus, as well as the EU missions, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and United Nations High Commission for Refugees in Belarus visited “Brest” border crossing checkpoint and “Kazlovichy”, the international truck transport border entry point at the Belarusian-Polish part of the border, BelaPAN informs.

During the visit the diplomats got acquainted with the advanced technologies which guarantee security of the border protection. In particular, at Brest” border crossing checkpoint guests were demonstrated the capacities of the unit which is equipped by the latest integrated system of border control. Advanced technical facilities received by Belarusian border guards were presented as well, including an unmanned aircraft system, an autogyro, surveillance systems, signaling systems, thermographic cameras and seismic sensors. Besides, the guests familiarized themselves with advanced models of automobile and special engineer equipment, capabilities of the canine center of border control service.

In “Kazlovichy” border entry point modern technical means of border control were demonstrated, as well as feasibility of the electronic queuing system project implementation, which is to be launched at this border entry point soon.

In the end of the information visit the head of the head of EU delegation in Belarus Maira Mora told journalists that she had been impressed by the equipment and by the attitude of border guards to their work. “I didn’t know how many kinds of equipment, devices and technical means are produced by Belarusian enterprises for protection of their borders,” she said.

Answering the question about her evaluation of the efforts of Belarus in the common system of the European border security, Mora said: “I think that Belarus is doing very well. It is a reliable and effectively working border, which unites Belarus and the European Union.”

The European diplomat has stressed that at the moment several joint programmes are being implemented at the Belarusian border: the one in the interest of the border guard service with a total budget of more than Euro 4 mln, and in the interest of the customs service with the total budget of more than Euro 15 mln. Since 2001 more than Euro 57 mln have been invested in these spheres. New joint projects related to border control could be discussed in 2015, she noted.
