Single tax for Minsk sole traders to be increased

A draft decision of Minsk city council is to increase taxes for small business.

The ruling of Minsk city Council of deputies #395 “On single tax rates for sole traders and other individuals under the Tax Code of Belarus” currently in force, was adopted not long ago, it was passed on February 19, 2014. The document came into force even later. And now Minsk city executive committee has announced the beginning of the public debate on the draft ruling of Minsk city council under the same title, “Interfax-Zapad” informs.

According to the draft ruling, the rates of the single tax have been increased. For instance, the rate of the single tax for sole traders who sell potatoes, vegetables, berries, watermelons, melons, grapes, are planned to be set at Br 650,000 - 920,000 per month, depending on a retail outlet (Br 520,000 – 740,000 now); natural skin clothes, carpets, household appliances, TV and radio goods – Br 2,130,000 – 2,730,000 (as compared to Br 1,710,000 – 2,540,000 now); footwear (except indoor footwear, baby-shoes, rubber and felted footwear) – Br 740,000 – 1,290,000 (Br 590,000 – 1,030,000 now).

The same situation is with the single tax rates for sole traders who are engaged in a retail trade on the territory of Minsk in certain shopping centres and markets. For example, a sole trader who sells detergents, polish, perfumes, cosmetic goods at the territory of Zhdanovichy shopping centre, are to pay a single tax of Br 850,000 – 920,000 per month instead of 680,000 – 740,000 they pay now.

The single tax rate per month is to be changed for small businessmen repairing cars, motorcycles and motorbikes; restoration of tyres, vehicles health check, from Br 940,000 – 1,180,000 per month, to Br 1,560,000 – 1,700,000.

It is also planned to change the single tax rates for individuals, who do not have a status of a sole trader. For instance, private tutors are offered to pay Br260,000 instead of Br 140,000 they pay now.

The text of the draft ruling of Minsk city Council of deputies on setting the single tax rates for sole traders and other individuals in the range of basic rates of the single tax has been published by the website of Minsk city executive committee. The public debate is to continue until November 19.
