Russian Media Scaring Lukashenka With Belarusian Volunteers

Kyiv may get the Kalinouski regiment involved.

The Russian ng.ru website scares Lukashenka with a break in relations with Ukraine and the possible entry of Belarusian volunteers into the territory of our country.

The publication quotes Ukrainian political scientist Yevhen Magda as saying that Ukraine will break diplomatic relations with Belarus as early as in May.

This decision may be related to the planned opening of the Consulate General of Belarus in Rostov-on-Don. The consular district will include Rostov and Volgograd regions of Russia, as well as the occupied territories of Ukraine, Crimea, "DPR" and "LPR."

Meanwhile, in case of aggravation of relations with Minsk, Kyiv has not only diplomatic arguments in its arsenal. Political scientist Alexander Fridman reminds: "Belarusian volunteers, who have been fighting in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) since 2022, are not only a military resource for Kyiv, but also an important tool of influence on official Minsk".

If relations between Kyiv and Minsk escalate radically, the role of the Kastus Kalinouski Regiment and other formations may also be rethought. "Over the years of the war, Belarusian volunteers have gained considerable combat experience. An operation on the territory of their native country will be an additional motivating factor for them. As for the state of the Belarusian armed forces, their ability and readiness to withstand such actions, one cannot assess it. And it seems that Lukashenka is not at all eager to test the potential of his army in practice," the expert believes.
