A crisis in the relations between the US and Russia caused by a decision of the US administration to deploy ballistic missile defense systems in the Czech Republic and Poland can affect security of Israel directly.
Recently in response to Americans’ actions Russia adopted a decision to deliver Iskander missile launchers to Belarus. Missile systems delivered to Belarus are to have a range of 280 km, and thus won’t be subject to the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) which concerns armaments with a range of more than 300 km and won’t be subject to international inspections, MIGnews.com informs.
However, military experts note that missile complexes Iskander could be modernized easily. Three years ago then Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon prevented deliveries of these complexes to Syria, personally asking President Putin to withdraw from a bargain.
According to Western experts, a start of Iskander missiles in fact cannot be prevented because of its mobility and improved targeting system. Emergence of these armaments in the Middle East can change the balance of forces here drastically.
A correspondent of the Russian newspaper Kommersant Ivan Safronov who received information about deliveries of missile complexes to Syria by roundabout ways via Belarus died under mysterious circumstances in March this year.
It is known that Belarusian experts rendered assistance to Iran in ballistic missiles Shahab 3 and Shahab 4 creation project.
