Alyaksandr Taustyka: “If regime won’t make terms, our struggle would turn into political one”

“In case at the top level the authorities speak about different kinds of dialogues, with West, with Russia, and even to some extent with political opposition, the yesterday events have shown that the only dialogue the regime is not ready for is the dialogue with its own people. They are talking with their nation exclusively from a position of strength. As only threats, intimidation by some punitive actions against us are heard from the authorities, once again demonstrates that the today’s Belarusian regime is totally anti-people’s regime,” one of the leaders of the entrepreneurs’ movement Alyaksandr Taustyka to Charter’97 press-center, commenting on the yesterday’s protest rally of entrepreneurs.

“Speaking generally, the protest rally to which we had been preparing was even more successful than we expected. Though the regime tried to isolate most of the leaders beforehand, people who gathered on the square were not taken aback and demonstrated that they have courage and strength to defend their rights,” the entrepreneur said.

As said by him, entrepreneurs will demand cancellation of the discriminatory decree as before. “In case the authorities would not make concessions, from an economic one our fight will become finally political, it will turn from defense of our rights into struggle for human rights in Belarus,” A. Taustyka stressed.

As said by him, the largest problem in the today’s regime’s workers, officials, is irresponsibleness and fear. “Ministers, not to mention people of lower rank, fear to take responsibility even in trivial issues, in most cases are not on top of issues when you discuss some concrete questions with them. Nobody is responsible for anything in the government agencies, and they fear everything, which could only be an evidence of the regime’s paralysis”, the entrepreneur believes.
