Head of Interior Ministry: “My eyes were dimmed with tears yesterday when I saw my officers being beaten up”

The Interior Minister of Belarus Uladzimir Navumau will insist on harsh legal assessment of the actions of the participants of the meeting held on January 10 in Minsk.

“I will insist that such things cannot be forgiven. My eyes were dimmed with tears when I saw my workers being spit at, beaten up and the worst done to them,” Interfax quotes Navumau.

The minister has also said that “they (participants of the unsanctioned protest) started to jump in buses and beat people”.

“I wouldn’t call it a rally, but I will insist that it was a separate act of hooliganism,” the minister stressed.

He also said that “27 persons were detained yesterday, and only 2 of them are entrepreneurs, Shyla from Salihorsk and Shumchanka from Minsk. All others are teenagers born in 1991 – 1988; they study in vocational-technical schools and other educational institutions in Poland and Belarus”.

It means that, if we believe to Navumau, there were no market vendors at their protest rally...
