Dzyady rally, dedicated to the Day of Commemoration of Ancestors, is to be held in Minsk on November 2. The rally begins at 12.00 noon with laying flowers to the graves of famous Belarusian public figures at Uskhodniya Cemetery. People will march along Kalinouski and Street and Lahoiski Trakt to Kurapaty memorial complex, where a meeting will be held. The rally is permitted by the city authorities.

Chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front Lyavon Barshcheuski said at a press conference today that the authorities had allowed a rally from Uskhodniya Cemetery to Kurapaty memorial complex according to the planned route.

An application for the rally on Dzyady day was singed by head of the Belarusian Popular Front Lyavon Barshcheuski and deputy head Viktar Ivashkevich. The Minsk district executive committee permitted the rally yesterday, the Minsk city executive committee did it today at 10.00 am.

“We want this Dzyady rally to be attended by many people, like previous years, but we expect this Dzyady to be more contrast. We want to remind those people who were originators of the Belarusian Revival. We will lay flowers to the graves of famous Belarusians: Vasil Bykau, Mikhas Tkachou, Pimen Panchanka, journalist Ihar Hermenchuk and many other prominent Belarusians buried at Uskhodniya Cemetery,” Lyavon Barshcheuski said.

The politician noted that people commemorate their dead relatives on this day, but there are some people, who are respected by all of us, who made a lot for the country.

“It is commemoration of the dead people’s souls, it is light commemoration. We should remembers them and thank them,” Lyavon Barshcheuski noted.

Head of the Dzyady organising committee Viktar Ivashkevich says that it was the first authorised opposition action for the last year.

“Let thousands of people take to streets on this day and hundreds of flags be unfurled,” Viktar Ivashkevich emphasised. The politician reminded that national symbols could be used during the march.

“This rally is organised to demonstrate that our Belarusian flag is raised. On Dzyady day we should unite and show we are moving forwards,” Viktar Ivashkevich said.

Viktar Ivashkevich said that distribution of leaflets about the rally is permitted because they contain imprints.

Lyavon Barshcheuski also reminded that Father Wladyslaw Zawalniuk invited to a memorial service in Roman Catholic Church of Saint Simon and Alena at 5.00 pm November 2.
