Andrei Sannikov: “US sanctions have made Belarusian authorities release political prisoners”

It were the economic sanctions imposed by the US against Lukashenka’s regime have made the Belarusian authorities release political prisoners, believes one of the leaders of the civil campaign “European Belarus” Andrei Sannikov.

ReplyMany people were downplaying the impact of economic sanctions against Belarus,
Replynot only Lukashenko, but also experts from Belarus, which live and work abroad.
I think, the <friendly smiling appeasement policy> of the EU - which is represented
by Mrs. Benita Ferrero-Waldner, should change. Deals like the sale of MDC were
making the regime stronger - and I still wonder, why there was not a single alarm
signal ringing in the EU.
Based on such evidence, the EU must not wonder, when there are doubts in the
sincerity of the EU. To write 12 claims on a sheet of paper is not enough for to
change reality - and this document played no role in the recent releases of
political prisoners in Belarus.
Therefore I share the analyse of Mr. Sannikov - and I would like to add:
Mrs. Benita Ferrero-Waldner should NOT claim this success not for the EU.
To sit and watch is not an effective policy. To remain silent to a deal like MDC
was indirect support for Lukashenko and his regime. I consider it as a shame,
that the Republic of Austria was involved directly in this deal - because the
Republic of Austria is the main stake holder of Austria Telekom.
Stopp smiling appeasement towards Lukashenko, dear European Union !!
"Именно экономические санкции, которые ввели США в отношении режима..." Если б саша сам себя б не перехитрил отсиживали б все и по полной! А на штаты он ложил. Тут он скорее с Россией облажался, А все его последующие действия это конвульсии и потуги хоть с чего то сливки снять.
ReplyДа ,согласен на все 100,что именно экономические санкции, которые ввели США в отношении режима Лукашенко, заставили белорусские власти освободить политзаключенных.Ведь у Луки там и свой шкурный интерес имеется.А на все остальное он чхать хотел
