Leader of Homel branch of UCP Vasil Palyakou: “Self-respect does not allow me to participate in this farce”

Long-term observers of the ODIHR/OSCE have visited Homel region. Beside meetings with workers of official institutions and election commissions, observers had talks with representatives of the democratic forces. And primarily with those who refused to take part in the “elections” as candidates for deputies.

“The head of the observation mission asked why we withdraw at this stage of the “elections”. I told that from the very beginning we proposed stipulations, such as to include all our representatives to election commissions, to register all our candidates and to stop pressure on our activists and members of the teams of candidates belonging to the common democratic forces list. These conditions haven’t been fulfilled. Our self-respect and dignity do not allow candidates of the democratic forces to take part in this elections campaign, in this farce,” told the chairman of the regional branch of the United Democratic party Vasil Palyakou said to Radio Svaboda, who had applied to withdraw from “elections”.
