Activist of the “European Belarus” civil campaign Yakau Perchyk was detained in Hrodna for distributing of “Vybor” newspaper yesterday. Newspaper was dedicated to boycott of the oncoming “parliamentary election”.
A report on article 17.1 of the Code of Administrative Offences (hooliganism) was drawn up against the activist for distributing of newspaper. Traditionally, militia uses this article to press the opposition, in particular to hide political motives of arrests of democratic activists. Yakau Perchyk was released some hours after the detention. The activist is likely to have a trial soon.
