The “house of representatives” of the “national assembly” of Belarus is going to consider a question on independence of Georgia’s regions on April 2 this year.
Valer Ivanou, deputy chairman of the “house of representatives” of the “national assembly” of Belarus, told it journalists in Moscow.
“This question is being discussed by the members of the house of representatives. A decision will be taken on a session on April 2. Members of the house of representatives are talking about it, when a decision is reached, we will announce it,” the Belarusian MP said at a press conference on the results of a meeting of heads of parliamentary delegations of the countries of Collective Security Treaty Organization in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
It should be reminded that independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia has been recognized only by Russia and Nicaragua. The Russian authorities have stressed several times they are interested in recognition of these breakaway republics by Belarus. Russia’s ambassador to Belarus Alexander Surikov said it. According to Russian mass media, this question has been raised at meetings of Dmitry Medvedev and Alyaksandr Lukashenka several times. The European Union, on the contrary, warns the Belarusian authorities against recognition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
