“Right direction” according to Brussels: from prison to army

Zmitser Khvedaruk, activist of the “Young Front”, who had legal grounds for determent, was sent to mobility forces in Zhodzina (the Smalyavichy district) right from the prison on Akrestin Street.

Оппозиционер учится в Богословском колледже на дневном отделении и имеет право на отсрочку от службы в армии.

Benita Ferrero-Waldner seems to be in urgent need of a diplomatic success concerning Belarus - after her unsuccessful years as EU Commissioner.
ReplyIn 2008 she started to tolerate willingly the Home Gulags of Lukashenko, then she pushed forward the lifting of the EU sanctions, finally she even shaked the hands of the Belarusian FM - and finally she started to explain the whole world, that there are no political prisoners anymore in Belarus. Even the European MEPs started to believe her pro-Lukashenko propaganda.
For me as an EU citizen, the EU Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner has become the most successful international advokate of A. Lukashenko and his regime. Instead of defending human rights, Ferrero-Waldner supported a repressive regime.
Nobody in the EU will miss her in the next EU commission. Her diplomacy towards the repressive regime of Belarus was and is unacceptable for politically informed EU citizens.
По-моему, Путин уже насоздавал подобных "советов" и общественных "палат".Только демократии в России от этого не прибавилось,а скорее наоборот!.Но евролицемерам нужно буферное государство Беларусь с нищим и замордованным населением.Спасибо,госпожа Бенита!.Мы будем молиться за вас...

ReplyThe whole EU has done the same what you proopse now. To isolate Lukashenko and Belarus. The EU had almost no contacts with Belarus until recently except high level support of the so called "unified opposition".
And where does this lead? Did this behavior of Europe changed anything in Belarus? Not suprisingly not. Nothing has changed.
The current opposition is powerless. They do not have the publis support needed to achieve significant changes. OK I understand that it is notjust their failure because working under such dictatorship is not easy.
But we should realize that supporting only the "virtual opposition" is not the way to change situation in Belarus.
Without any contacts Europe have no leverage over happenings in Belarus. If you have no ties at all than you could not have the force to press the government of Belarus.
By engaging the current government Europe have the chance to change the course. The EU while giving signals of willingness to improve relations have a power to "lure" the ruling elite.
And the key to success is to make the ruling elite who have power to change anything to understand: it is in their interest to turn to Europe instead of supporting a dictatorship.
This was the case in other Central-European states as well. The West had dialogue with the communist Hungary and Poland even before the regime change. This was the key for the peaceful transition. Because ex-communists believed that it is better for them to live in the European community than living under the dictatorship.
Европа создает нам вторую реальность, вроде как все хорошо, и с этой мыслью они хотят приучить жить нас. Но ведь это неправда! Ну хоть кто-нибудь скажет этим европейцам, что король-то голый, или у них совсем глаза закрылись от дикого желания во время кризиса воткнуть Беларуси свои станки и технологии. Во время кризиса "воткнуть" что-либо из Европы гораздо сложнее, чем до него. Рубль девальвирован и импорт крайне невыгоден. Скорее экспорт из Беларуси упрощается. И сейчас этим нужно воспользоваться, но эта власть снова все прое... Про то, что король голый, все здесь знают, по крайней мере я об этом рассказываю... Так что ваша посылка неверна - никто здесь не хочет и не верит, что можно туда "станки и технологии"...
Ну што, апазыцыя, дыялогу захацелася? Больш тут Вінцук радуе, які так за лібералізацыю зь лябедзькамі ратаваў. Вось атрымаў і дыялог і лібералізацыю.

ReplySorry Zoltan, but before 1989, all the (so-called) presidents of authoritarian regimes in Eastern Europe were isolated by representatives of democratic countries. For democrats such consequent behaviour was - and still is - a matter of integrity.
To isolate such a (so-called) president (there is only one left in Europe) does not mean to isolate a country. It means, that a country is isolated by such a (so-called) president. This is the main problem of Belarus for years - and there is only one way to solve this problem.
Your arguments about powerless opposition was heard also always about the opposition of Hungary and Poland. Please let me remind you, dear Zoltan, how heroic people in these two countries (which were mentioned by you) were fighting for democracy.
The key for peaceful transition is not a question of power. The desire for peaceful transition must grow strong in the hearts of citizens. The opposition in Belarus (which you like to drag into mud here) is far ahead of this important process - and you should feel privileged to live among such people.
I wish Belarus the best for the future, but the citizens of your country must choose their own way and to learn walking this way uprightly - without blaming others for it's endemic political system.

ReplyНет, понятно же, что Европа сделать ничего не может с белорусским режимом. Так хоть бы и не позорилась подобными заявлениями!
Пока беларусы - рабы по сути своей, никто им помочь не сможет. Поэтому не надо здесь "наезжать" на ЕС. И если каждый гражданин нашей республики наконец-то осознает, что "человек-звучит гордо", и перестанет пресмыкаться перед всем, что движется и командует, то тогда будут подвижки. А надеется на Европу или Америку, что приедет добрый дядя Обама, с добрым дядей Барозу, и наведут здесь порядок, по крайней мере глупо.
