They will stay for a week in the unrecognized republics allegedly with an aim to consider an issue of their recognition.
The members of the “house of representatives” got into three groups: two groups of three visit Abkhazia and South Ossetia, six persons go to Georgia.
“I am leaving for South Ossetia. We’ll study the current situation there. We need to see the life there and relations between Russia and Georgia. We should understand that it is an ambiguous question for Belarus. We see many advantages and disadvantages in the question of recognition,” MP Uladzimir Kuzhanau told “Komsomolskaya Pravda”. “We do not have a programme of the visit. We’ll get out of airplane and then we’ll see. It is very important for us to talk to the local inhabitants.”
“I will visit Georgia. Our programme has been agreed upon with the Georgian party. We have many places to visit. We will study activity of the parliament, governmental bodies, church, opposition parties, and opinions of ordinary people. We are going to meet many people not only in Tbilisi. We are going to visit the places of operations, including Gori district,” MP Viktar Huminski said.
We remind that Abkhazia and South Ossetia addressed the Belarusian “parliament” asking to recognize their independence a year ago. At this time, South Ossetia and Abkhazia have been recognized only by Russia and Venezuela. The president of Nicaragua introduced that question for discussion, but the parliament rejected the proposal. The rest countries consider Abkhazia and South Ossetia parts of Georgia.
Alyaksandr Lukashenka declared in September last year that Belarus would recognize Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Most independent experts regarded this statement as flirting with the European Union to get loans.
