Makei: “We cannot be a democratic state”

Head of the Belarus President Administration stated that “nothing would change in Belarus despite of exclamations from the left and from the right”.
“Sometimes we are asked in terms of an ultimatum to start living in a democratic state, as they understand it, overnight. But it is impossible. The society should ripen for changes internally,” said Head of Lukashenka’s administration Uladzimir Makei on 10 December as he presented the Central Election Commission staff with the thank-you letters of Alyaksandr Lukashenka.
“Very often our partners in Europe and the US are not happy with the results of these or those elections, though it is acknowledged that the elections are held in strict compliance with the Belarusian laws,” Makei said as quoted by BelTA. “Afterwards we hear ultimatum demands to replace almost all members of the Central Election Commission. We are required to get the election legislation amendments based on the OSCE recommendations preliminary coordinated. Routine issues of domestic policy (expulsions of students for truancy, army draft, well-justified refusals to register this or that organization) are inflated to the level of political problems of international scale. Some international organizations adopt offensive and humiliating resolutions on Belarus which are aimed at keeping the country on the tenterhooks.
In this situation the Belarusian side had to take adequate responses to the approaches of the European partners to the cooperation with our country, Makei said.
He stated that Belarus needs “to progress smoothly towards the goal that meets the interests of the state and the people, live according to the Constitution and the laws”.
“We are ready for an open, sincere, equal and private dialogue,” said Vladimir Makei.
Congratulating the staff of the CEC, the Head of the Belarus President Administration stated that the staff of the commission is highly professional and capable of addressing complex tasks. The CEC is not only a collective body, but also a team of people who think the same way. They are efficient, focused and proactive, Uladzimir Makei said. He gave special thanks to CEC Chairperson Lidziya Yarmoshyna.
“She has made a great contribution to making the CEC an open, honest and transparent organization. Her constant readiness for an open dialogue inspires respect in journalists, voters and even the opposition,” Makei added.
We remind that the CEC chairperson Lidziya Yarmoshyna is banned entry to the EU countries for rigging election results. None of the elections in Belarus in recent years has been recognized by the European Union.
One of the requirements for returning Belarus the special guest status at the PACE is carrying out an election reform and free election.
