Martynau and Solana had tête-à-tête conversation

A meeting of the Foreign Minister of Belarus Syarhei Martynau with High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Secretary General of the Council of the European Union Javier Solana.

As Interfax informs, the meeting was held without journalists and lasted for more than an hour.

Extended session of the talks haven’t been held. Syarhei Martynau stated that talks are to continue with Alyaksandr Lukashenka.

Christina Gallach, Spokesperson for Javier Solana, explained to journalists the position of the EU which wants closer relations with Belarus, but they would like to see further development of democratic processes in Belarus.

Early in the morning Javier Solana held talks with representatives of the Belarusian opposition and non-governmental organisations. In the second part of the day a press-conference of the Secretary General of the Council of the European Union is planned.
