Javier Solana urges Lukashenka not to recognize Abkhazia and South Ossetia

The EU High Representative urges official Minsk not to recognize independence of the Georgian territories.
Javier Solana says in case of recognition, the relations of the EU and Belarus will be revised and changed not to very desirable direction, GHN reports.
The EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy said after the meeting of the EU foreign ministers in Brussels on March 16 that further relations of Belarus and the EU would depends on whether Minsk recognize South Ossetia and Abkhazia. In case of recognition, the relations between Minsk and the EU would be revised.
It should be noticed that Georgian foreign minister Grigol Vashadze had a meting with Benita Ferrero-Waldner, the EU Commissioner for External Relations and Neighbourhood Policy, in the frames of his visit to Belgium and Luxemburg on March 16.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affaires, they discussed Georgian-Russian relations, the situation in the country, Georgia-EU relations, prospects for facilitating of visa regime and other issues.
Vashadze has a meeting today with Javier Solana, the EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy. The head of the Georgian foreign ministry will also take part in an international conference on Georgia’s relations with Russia and the EU today in Brussels.
EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana paid a visit to Minsk in February 2009. He had a number of meetings with representative of official Minsk , including Alyaksandr Lukashenka. It is still unknown, what themes were discussed by the EU official and the Belarusian ruler, because the talks were held in fact behind closed doors.
