Alyaksandr Kazulin: “Those who took convenient “pragmatic” decisions on the Belarusian dictator will be ashamed”

Alyaksandr Kazulin, former presidential candidate and former political prisoner, calls invitation of Lukashenka to the summit in Prague the “recognition of the Belarusian dictatorship”.

On March 28, the EU foreign ministers decided to invite Belarusian dictator Alyaksandr Lukashenka for the Eastern Partnership summit in Prague on May 7.

As former presidential candidate Alyaksandr Kazulin told the Charter’97 press center, invitation of Lukashenka for the summit was “a great mistake of Europe”.

“It is a great mistake of Europe,” Kazulin says. “It is obvious that Lukashenka comes for the summit as a winner, and the democracy bows its head to the dictatorship. This decision demonstrates that Europe is ready to sell the most important thing – moral values, lying in foundation of democracy of the western states.”

According to Alyaksandr Kazulin, Europe holds a pragmatic position in a dialogue with official Minsk and shut eyes to the dictatorship.

“One can wear a new suit, but the essence remains the same,” the former political prisoner said. “Lukashenka wears a new suit, but he feels uncomfortable in it. The suit is too tight, and as soon as the situation changes, it will tear to peaces. Those, who took convenient “pragmatic” decisions on the dictator, will be ashamed. The crisis is not in the economy, but in mind. “Devaluation” of moral values leads to a political and economic chaos.”
