Detentions ahead of Chernobyl Way in regions

Militia hindered a group of democratic activists from Zhodzina and Smalyavichy (the Minsk region) to hold Chernobyl Way-2009.
As BelaPAN learnt from Mikalai Pakhabau, head of the Minsk regional branch of the trade union of radio and electronic industry, who came to Minsk from Barysau, four activists from Zhodzina and one from Smalyavichy couldn’t go to the rally.
They cell phones were switched off by 12.10 p.m., and then it became known Zhodzina dwellers were detained in the city and a Smalyavichy dweller was visited at home in the morning April 26.
Pakhabau said about surveillance and told he had been detained when leaving Barysau on April 24. According to him, militia officers were looking for arms and explosives in his car, where he was carrying “Rabochaya Salidarnast” newspaper.
