Lithuania in favour of civil society development in the framework of Eastern Partnership program

Lithuania will seek that more attention should be paid to the development of civil society in partner countries in the framework of Eastern Partnership program.

Undersecretary of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry Evaldas Ignatavičius said this in Tallinn on May 11 during a meeting with his colleagues in Baltic states, the press service of the Lithuanian MFA reports.

Undersecretaries of the foreign ministries discussed preparation for a session of EU foreign ministers in Brussels on May 18–19 that will be focused on cooperation as part of the Eastern Partnership program and its financing.

As Ignatavičius thinks, the EU should take active and coordinated action to implement the new policy. He discussed topical issues of the relations with eastern neighbours with his Estonian colleague Märt Volmer.

As BelaPAN previously reported, a forum for cooperation of civil societies of 27 EU members and six EU partners – Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine – was created within frameworks of the Eastern Partnership program.
