The Oborona movement held a picket of solidarity with Belarusian political prisoners near the Belarusian embassy in Moscow on May 14.
The picket was dedicated to the anniversary of returning Soviet symbols to Belarus, a correspondent of kasparov.ru reports.
10 activists of the movement were shouting “Long Live Belarus!”, “Freedom to Political Prisoners!” and “Freedom to Belarus!”
The participants of the action handed round leaflets condemning “corrupted and power-loving ruling class leading by Alyaksandr Lukashenka”. Oborona draws attention to the fact freedom of citizens is suppressed in Belarus.
According to the movement activists, the Russians haven’t learnt a lesson from modern history of Belarus and voted for Vladimir Putin in 2000. Oborona thinks neither Belarus nor Russia were able to break from “bonds of imperial world perception”.
“Society in Russia and Belarus agrees to sacrifice interests of people for interests of the state, but in fact for profit and power of officials,” the statement says.
Activists think the country can’t be free and independent if the people is not free.
On May 14, 1995, a referendum was carried out in Belarus that changed historical national coat of arms and flag.
On May 14, march “For Independence!” is to be held in Minsk. Representatives of young organizations and common people will attend the rally to express their support to Belarusian activists, who have been on hunger strike since May 4 in solidarity with political prisoners.
