Picket in support of political prisoners held in Brest (Photo)

Youth activists held a picket in Brest to express their solidarity with Mikalai Autukhovich, Yury Lyavonau, and Uladzimir Asipenka.

On May 23, a picket “Solidarity Helps to Win” was organized in Brest by activists of “Young Front” and “The BPF Youth”.

Youth activists were handing round leaflets in the city center with information about the recent events in Minsk: actions of solidarity to support political prisoners, solidarity hunger strikes, arrests and dispersals of peaceful rallies.

It should be reminded that entrepreneurs from Vaukavysk Mikalai Autukhovich, Yury Lyavonau, and Uladzimir Asipenka were detained on February 8 and guarded to Minsk pre-trial detention center #1.

Mikalai Autukhovich went on indefinite hunger strike on April 16 protesting against criminal persecution and non-investigating his case. The political prisoner demands to send the case to court or release Yury Lyavonau, Uladzimir Asipenka and him on their own recognizance. Autukhovich has been on hunger strike for the 37th day, his life is serious danger.

The investigation of the case of the businessmen in Vaukavysk was extended till June 3. Relatives of the political prisoners weren’t permitted to visit them for four months.

Human rights activists consider the detained to be political prisoners, drawing attention to the fact Mikalai Autukhovich and Yury Lyavonau were convicted before and recognized prisoners of conscience by the international community.
