Oppositionist Andrei Tsyanyuta to stand trial for nonappearance in military enlistment office

1

The military enlistment office called Andrei Tsyanyuta for the last medical examination before the draft; the young man was to appear in the Savetski district court after noon.

An administrative report against “Young Front” activist Andrei Tsyanyuta was drawn upon August 10 by Syarhei Samafalau, the deputy head of the drafting department of the Homel military enlistment office. As the report says, the reason was “failure to appear in the military enlistment office without a good excuse on July 24”. Besides, the military office restricted the youth activist of travelling outside Belarus, Radio Svaboda reports.

“I could not appear before the medical board this morning,” Tsyanyuta says. “I am a day patient at emergency hospital. On August 14, the military enlistment office obliged me to have a medical examination by today. Doctors say I have problems with back bone, so I am at hospital now. I can go to court if I leave hospital by 3:00 p.m.”

We remind that Andrei Tsyanyuta had a determent for military service because he is a student of Bryansk Agricultural Academy.

In July 24, he received a summons saying he must appear the military enlistment office for drafting for military service. Tsyanyuta sent a notice saying he was a student of Bryansk Agricultural Academy. But then the military office responded he had been expelled from the academy.

The youth activist phoned the academy which invited him to come. He was said he had been expelled due to academic failure: he didn’t have a credit for a course read more than a year ago.

Tsyanyuta claims he has all necessary credits in the record. Teachers explain Andrei in a private conversation that his expulsion was connected with his political activity.
