Activists of the civil campaign “European Belarus” continue holding actions of solidarity with political prisoners, unwanted for the regime of Lukashenka.
Youth activists held an action of support of political prisoners Mikalai Autukhovich, Yury Lyavonau, Uladzimir Asipenka, and Artsyom Dubski on Wednesday near “Pushkinskaya” metro station. The activists held a banner “Freedom to Political prisoners!” They had a similar street action on this place the day before.
Entrepreneurs from Vaukavysk Mikalai Autukhovich, Yury Lyavonau, and Uladzimir Asipenka have been in pre-trial detention facility #1 of the main militia department of the Minsk city executive committee for more than five months. Human rights activists consider them to be political prisoners drawing attention to the fact that Autukhovich and Lyavonau were convicted before and recognized prisoners of conscience by the international community.
“Young Front” activist Artsyom Dubski was sentenced to a year of imprisonment in a minimum security colony for violation of the rules of serving punishment in the case of 14.
The Case of 14 is a criminal case under article 342 of the Criminal Code of Belarus, instigated against participants of a peaceful rally of entrepreneurs held in Minsk on January 10, 2008.
14 youth activists were sentenced to different terms of restriction of liberty and imprisonment for participation in this rally. Amnesty International recognized participants of the Process of 14 Prisoners of Conscience in 2009.
