The former chairman of the Supreme Soviet has harshly condemned invitation of the Belarusian dictator to Lithuania.
“The European Union and other democratic countries have admitted inefficiency of simply condemning the odious actions of the Belarusian authorities. To improve the situation, for some reason they have decided not to remind about violations of the Constitution by this regime, about humiliating citizens’ human dignity, about insulted dignity and morality, about justice and law. In other words, the West has decided to be “forgiving”, to forget about disappearances of politicians, arms trade with the rogue countries, balloonists’ shooting, brutal beating of demonstrators, antidemocratic constitution, rigged election results, eviction of ambassadors and many other things,” the former chairman of the Supreme Soviet of Belarus, the chairman of the Belarusian Social Democratic Hramada Stanislau Shushkevich told to www.charter97.org website.
According to the politician, VIPs of the democratic community are contributing money to the dictator “for rescuing the gang of leaders from the crisis; they are inviting him abroad, to the company of decent politicians”.
“They hope that he would understand something, have awareness of the situation, be reformed… There is a desire to tell Europeans: wake up, my good sirs! Wake up to reality, Solana, Ferrero-Waldner, Sikorski, Ušackas, and finally, Dalia Grybauskaitė! Your “mercy” has already caused the Belarusian riot policemen to become brutal and to go berserk because of the sense of permissiveness. Thanks to you the regime’s guardsmen are crippling peaceful protesters shamelessly, tormenting political prisoners, and the ruling regime is openly turning into a terrorist one. Your “Realpolitik” shouldn’t be transformed into amorality!” Stanislau Shushkevich said.
