In the morning September 16, a picket was organized near the Lithuanian president’s working residence before the beginning of negotiations between Alyaksandr Lukashenka and Dalia Grybauskaite.
Representatives of the Belarusian diaspora were against Lukashenka’s visit to Lithuania. The protestors said they stood for establishing partner ties with Belarus, but stood against human rights violations in the republic. The picketers met Lukashenka’s motorcade near the Lithuanian president’s palace.
A national white-red-white flag was made out of red and white paper planes and a huge poster depicting a crossed face with moustache “No Country for Moustache” was laid on the river bank opposite the parliament in the morning.
“We’d like to turn attention to the tenth anniversary of disappearance of the Belarusian opposition leaders,” Arnoldas Piktzirnis, head of the Young Conservative League and a picket organizer, told journalists.
The Day of Solidarity with the families of political prisoners and missing people is traditionally marked in Belarus on September 16. A picket at October Square in Minsk is planned for tonight.
