Village museum sealed ahead Lukashenka’s visit

Alyaksandr Lukashenka continues travelling in Palesse region. He opened a new school in Tsyareblichy village (the Stolin district) and made a number of statements on revival of Palesse.

However, now all Tsyareblichy dwellers, who wanted to talk to the Belarusian ruler, had a chance for a conversation, Radio Svaboda reports.

A librarian from Tsyareblichy had a restless night. KGB officers knocked at her window and ordered her to go to the library, where a wooden figures exhibition had opened. Lukashenka said he’d like see the exhibition.

“They examined every show-piece. Everything was sealed. It was night. They left much dirt and sand. How should I have accepted the guest? But I had to. I have never seen bomb technicians checking everything,” the librarian told.

The rush job didn’t touch only the library.

“The museum and club were repaired. Fences were repaired, too, some of them even rebuilt. The road was gravelled. It was planned to cover it with asphalt, but too little time was left. It was done within a week,” local dwellers say.

But Lukashenka didn’t visit the sealed museum.

“There wasn’t a meeting. Lukashenka didn’t come. Buses with unknown people drove. But local dwellers couldn’t attend the school opening ceremony,” the librarian said.

Another local dweller, Ivan Navitski, also criticized the preparation for the Lukashenka’s visit:

“I have an impression that everything is window dressing,” Mikalai thinks. “So many officials came! Authorities repair roofs, paint. But this is window dressing. They do it today, but tomorrow they will leave the village and forget about it, as usual.”

Alyaksandr Lukashenka made a statement on revival of Palesse. He thinks “people mustn’t harm or spoil the land.”

But a discussion with people from Palesse failed.
