Tortures in militia department: Handcuffed oppositionist suspended from bars

Vitsebsk opposition activist Aleh Surhan was tortured in a militia department for a white-red-white flag.
As www.charter97.org has already reported, three national whit-red-white flags were hung out in Vitsebsk on September 3: on the Kirov Bridge, on Freedom Square, and near the medical university. Opposition activist Aleh Surhan was detain at a bus stop in front of the university by militia, “Narodnye Novosti Vitebska” reports.
As Syarhei Kavalenka, a friend of the detained said, Surhan told him militia officers had asked him to show documents and then guarded him to the Kastrychnitski district militia department and beat him.
According to Kavalenka, militiamen handcuffed Aleh Surhan and suspended him from the bars, beat his head against a toilet bowl, spit at him.
According to Syarhei Kavalenka, Surhan has traces of beating at his face. The activists managed to call an ambulance. Aleh Surhan was taken to the 3rd hospital of Vitsebsk.
