Today is International Day of Journalists' Solidarity
- 8.09.2009, 11:21
This day is marked worldwide since 1958, when the 4th Congress of the International Organisation of Journalists was held in Bucharest.
More than half a century has passed since that time. But the meaning of the world “solidarity” hasn’t changed, and the journalists’ solidarity is still needed, the press-service of the Belarusian Association of Journalists informs.
Solidarity is an active interest, a readiness to support and come to aid. It is often the only way to defend one’s interests.
We feel ourselves a part of the international community of journalists, as we see their attention to our problems. In late September a mission of representatives of international and human rights organisations comes to Minsk. The visit is to take place under the aegis of the International Federation of Journalists. Our organisation is a member of the Federation. The BAJ welcomes the visit of the mission and hopes for a fruitful visit.
But it is also important for us, Belarusian journalists, to feel ourselves a professional community inside the country. No foreign mission could solve all the problems we face in our everyday work. They won’t teach us to feel sympathetic towards others and take pleasure in others’ success.
Let us not be indifferent. Let’s have solidarity!
