More than hundred people took part in the “picket parade” near GUM in Minsk.
On the last day of signature collecting for the nomination of contenders to the post of the President of Belarus, in general, initiative groups of the leader of a civil campaign “European Belarus” Andrei Sannikov and the leader of “Tell the Truth” campaign Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu took part. Other contenders Mikalai Statkevich and Vital Rymasheuski participated in the action symbolically.
At the beginning of the action Stanislau Shushkevich came to the picket to support Andrei Sannikov. The appearance of the first governor of the independent Belarus caused a real furor among the passers-by– there was no end to those who wanted to take picture of them with Shushkevich, “Nasha Niva” newspaper writes.
Soon Sannikov came. He was at once surrounded by activists of “European Belarus” and common Minskers, who were at that time near GUM. For example, a middle aged man, who was leaving GUM saw Sannikov, came up to him at once and presented him with a just-bought flashcard saying: “Here is a new flashcard to replace the one confiscated during the search”.
People greeted the leader of “European Belarus” chanting “Sannikov!” and “Long live Belarus!” (“Zhyve Belarus!”).
The leader of “Tell the Truth” campaign Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu came up to Sannikov who was surrounded by people. The politicians did not say conjoint statements, but they shook hands with each other.
During the picket Andrei Sannikov declared the following to the site charter97.org:
“It is a very emotional moment. People are charged for action, they believe that we will win. I feel enormous gratitude towards my adherents for the brilliant performance of such a complex and time-taking process of signature collecting. Our team got stronger during this time, new adherents came, who believe that we are those who are able to bring Belarus to normal life. Undoubtedly, people are charging you with energy, but you understand your responsibility for the fact, that efforts of these people should not go to waste. I see, that people are actually awakening, that people start to believe in their strengths and believe in our victory”, - Andrei Sannikov stated.
