Mikalai Khalezin: Teachers of meanness

215

When my daughters go to school, I meditate, who teaches “reasonable, kind, eternal to them. Who?” – a famous playwright writes.

Within the last decade and a half I knew absolutely: a candidate from teaches at the presidential elections -- Alyaksandr Ryhoravich Lukashenka. Now I’m getting added evidence one more time: it is them who stand in unreasonable pickets for signature collections for “their candidate”.

Each time when my daughters go to school, I meditate, who teaches “reasonable, kind, eternal to them. Who? Time-servers, cowards and scoundrels—teachers of secondary schools. As it is they who are “the backbone” of election committees and groups on the nomination of the same “candidate for presidency”. It is they – those who glorify the man of disastrous level of education and upbringing, in front of our children, they support him at the elections year after year. It is them who find hundreds of epithets and metaphors to replace the words “meanness”, “killing” or “betrayal” for “reasonability”, “stability” and “love towards homeland”.

Year after year they fake elections, gathering in a tight ring around a table with ballot papers. And nobody in their rows exclaims “what are we doing to our children!” They got accustomed to double standards, lie and hypocrisy. They do not care not only about our children, but about theirs as well. They invented one phrase which should explain everything to us: “if I will be fired, with what I will feed my children?”... I do not care with what – these children, brought up in lie, will grow up to be time-servers, liars and cowards. And how many tens, hundreds of thousands children whose parents found themselves “out of the dictator’s business” can not be normally fed, -- free-thinking people from business, culture, science? Why can’t they defend themselves by this salvation phrase? Why should they leave the country, change their occupation and deprive themselves from habitual way of life? Because they were “cared about” by teachers – a stronghold of the present regime.

Once, at the beginning of his presidential career, Alyaksandr Lukashenka said at the congress of teachers: “If we lose a teacher -- kapets, we will walk around drunk and fool”. The phrase turned to be sacral – we lost a teacher, the country is inevitably plunging into alcoholic haze and mental diseases. And it is a fault of our teachers -- who submissively entered election committees and initiative groups, and who are fulfilling all whims of the present authority, covering themselves with the phrase “if I will be fired, with what I will feed my children?”... I don’t know with what – one can’t feed children with honour. But I know, that it, honour, allows a person to remain human – a person who asks this question is a couple of decades behind the civilized life.

And so I have to plunge into a world of hypocrisy explaining to my daughters: “Well, what can be done – go to school and study well”. However, recently I add oftener: “...despite the fact that you have such teachers”.
