Sannikov in Lida and Hrodna (Photo)

Belarusians understand that only their taking to the streets will change the power in the country.

On Wednesday a prospective presidential candidate, the leader of “European Belarus” civil campaign Andrei Sannikov met with dwellers of Hrodna and Lida. He told about that trip to the press-service of “European Belarus”.

“Both in Hrodna and Lida people were actively asking what they could do to change the regime in Belarus. They gave their signatures willingly, they asked questions about the problems the new regime would face, willingly shared their ideas about the necessity to support middle and small business, everyone understands that the result of the election while Yarmoshyna is in charge, is invariably rigged, and only by rallies in the streets we would be able to demonstrate that we are a majority.

People also talked about the problems they have with salaries, job, about pressure by the authorities. One of the activists in Lida, for instance, achieved a record: she was registered at a working place in the morning, and by lunch time she was already fired for her political views.

Support of Hrodna dwellers is very important for me. I spent lots of time in Hrodna as a child. My aunt and a cousin, Alyaksei Kastsyushka, live there. He is a member of my initiative group, he supports me and collects signatures very energetically. I am very glad that I had a chance to pay a short visit to him,” Andrei Sannikov said.
