Students of the European Humanities University held a spontaneous action of protest at the Daukantas Square in Vilnius today.
Recall, on November, 11, Reuters reported, citing a diplomatic source in the EU, a statement of President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė that “the victory of Alyaksandr Lukashenka at the next presidential elections in Belarus will provide stability and limit Russia’s influence in this country.”
According to Reuters, Grybauskaitė said this at a recent meeting with the ambassadors of the European Union in Vilnius, BelaPAN reports.
“Lukashenka is a guarantor of economic and political stability in Belarus and its independence. We [Lithuania] would not want to see the second Russia as our neighbor”, - Grybauskaitė told the EU ambassadors, a source says.
According to a student of the EHU Yauhen Hladky, Belarusian students studying in Lithuania, were surprised by such statements and decided to get the necessary comments.
“In social networks, many EHU students discussed that Grybauskaitė expressed support for Belarusian President Lukashenka. Students were surprised and indignant by the statements of the Lithuanian president, and agreed to meet near the presidential administration. Belarusians, who are studying in Lithuania, were surprised to learn the view of Grybauskaitė that Lukashenka is the guarantor of independence and stability. After all, there are other presidential candidates, why can’t they be or become a guarantor of stability if they gain victory at the elections? “- the student said.
Participants of the rally - five students - held placards, at which in Lithuanian was written: “We do not want such stability,” “Ms. Dalia, is that true?”, “Has the real policy won over a human one?” And “Does the trade deficit turn into a lack of values?”
Protesters stood with placards near the presidential administration around 15 minutes.
The interviewee added that EHU students are planning to negotiate with the Lithuanian democratic, non-governmental organizations about holding a more serious action and get a comment or explanations from the Lithuanian president.
