The First channel of Russia has noted once again that there are no real elections in Belarus.
We offer the item of the ORT channel in the Sunday programme “Vremya” which was not broadcast in Belarus.
In a week the presidential election takes place in Belarus. The electoral race of 10 oppositional contenders with the incumbent president Lukashenka is taking place in a tense and sometimes in a comic environment.
They could be divided into 2 camps: those who are against Lukashenka and Lukashenka himself.
Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu, the candidate for presidency in Belarus: “Recognition of the presidential election means recognition of Lukashenka’s regime for the next 15 years. The election will be rigged, we won’t recognize this election. The second this required by the square is new election without Lukashenka!”
A Christmas tree has already been placed on the square where the Belarusian opposition plans to wait for the results of the election in a week. A skating rink is started to be made there. Candidates for presidency hold meetings in Minsk, and they are called a rehearsal of the “square”. And Lukashenka had a rehearsal 5 years ago. At the last election participants the tent town was disbanded by truncheons.
At the meetings with voters every candidate is asked this question: “We are standing a day, two days… What’s next?”
No one can give a concrete answer. They say that they have a plan for December 19, but they do not want to reveal it.
Andrei Sannikov, the candidate for presidency in Belarus: “We are living under the dictatorship. As soon as we announce our plans, they would try to thwart them. The main thing is, for as many people to take part in our campaign as possible.”
The secret plan of the opposition does not include storming of Lukashenka’s residence. They say is could be a nation-wide strike. But actions of the opposition would be more resolute only in case dozens thousands of people gather of the square.
The Belarusian election is like an ancient theatre. In ancient Greece a person came out to the stage and told the contents of the play; however both and the audience acted as if they do not know the finale. However there is still the difference between ancient Greeks and modern Belarusians. Greeks gathered for getting pleasure from the process, and Belarusians still have a hope for some finale.
