Freedom Day celebration to take place in Minsk on March 25

Participants of Freedom day celebration are to gather on March 25 at 6 p.m. near the National Academy of Sciences.

Then a march to Yanka Kupala Park is planned. An application for holding a march there has been submitted to Minsk city executive committee, but no answer has been received yet.

An application for holding a rally in Freedom Day had been made by the chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front Alyaksei Yanukevich, the leader of Minsk city branch of the Belarusian Popular Front Party Viktor Ivashkevich, and ten activities of the party, who at the moment are trying to pas the process of registration as candidates to deputies.

The organizers of the event do not exclude that the authorities could create obstacles to the protesters. As noted by the chairman of the BPF party, the head of the organizing committee of Freedom Day celebration Alyaksei Yanukevich, in such a case the scenario is to depend on the quantity of participants who are to gather for the event, and their mood”. However, “we won’t take people to Bangalore anyway”, Yanukevich stressed.

During the meeting it is planned to start collection of signatures under an open address to government authorities with a demand to declare March 25a state holiday of the Republic of Belarus”.
