Yarmoshyna offers to hold presidential election in February

42

The Central Election Commission finds February 6 a favourable date for the presidential election, the chairperson of the CEC Lidziya Yarmoshyna has informed today.

"We are proceeding from the idea that the final date for holding the presidential election, February 6, 2011 is favourable," Lidziya Yarmoshyna said, answering the question about whether the CEC would recommend most appropriate date for the presidential election.

The CEC chairperson added that the CEC hadn't discussed the concrete day of the presidential election in Belarus, and in general this issue is a political one. On its part the CEC is to follow just to have at least three-month gap between date of the end of term and the campaign baginning, BelTA informs.

Lidziya Yarmoshyna stated that the CEC is not going to initiate new amendments to the electoral legislation before the presidential election's beginning. She is convinced that frequent changes of the Electoral Code "are more often resulting in lawlessnes, then contribute to implementatio of the election process".

We remind that yesterday the CEC secretary Mikalai Lazavik informed that the presidential election could be held in autum this year.
