Lukashenka congratulates president of Eritrea

Alyaksandr Lukashenka congratulated president of Eritrea Isaias Afwerki and the people of the country on their national holiday, the Independence Day.

Eritrea became independent from Ethiopia in 1993. It is the most repressive state in the world. Isaias Afwerki has been ruling the country since its formation. The country’s leadership refuses to carry out democratic reforms due to hard economic situation. Nevertheless, it found money for a war against Ethiopia in 1998, a border conflict with Djibouti and support of Somali Islamist groups.

Human rights groups call Eritrea a “giant prison”.
