Democracy issues are “stinky” for Lukashenka

During the working visit to Homel region Alyaksandr Lukashenka could not help commenting on the informational war fought with him by Russian TV channels.

“I am offering them: let us, Russians and Belarusians, live in like a human beings, in friendship. We will share the last morsel, if needed. We have common defense system, and other things. I am not against, but it should be humanly. We have different approaches and ideas. They are very rich, they have everything, they are super-billionaires. What’s the use of my talking to them? I am a strange man for them,” said the Belarusian leader.

“No matter what our relations with Russia are, we won’t organize a policy against Russia here,” said the leader of Belarus, answering a question of journalists about our country’s participation in the Eastern Partnership.

“We saw not only an economic component there,” Lukashenka continued. “But we were categorically against being imposed upon us some issues of democracy in the Eastern Partnership, where we should do business; you know those stinky issues which are always imposed upon us. They have gone as far as to telling us to change the election code, as the presidential election is tomorrow. What relation does it bear to the Eastern Partnership? We are constantly being made these demands by the US and the European Union anyway. And now Russia seems to join them, though they have over the top of their own problems. That is why we do not need that, and I am always saying that we do not need such a policy. We are already experiencing that from the side of the European Union. If you want to cooperate with us and establish relations in the framework of the Eastern Partnership among other things, just tell us. If it is not convenient for you to cooperate with us, as there is a dictatorship here or something else, just tell us too. We are not dying to join them, as we have not been dying to join this Eastern Partnership”.
