Russia’s Foreign Ministry: Attack against Embassy in Belarus breeds mistrust and raises tensions

32

The Foreign Ministry of Russia has conveyed annoyance over the attack against the Russian Embassy in Belarus.

Two fire bombs were thrown onto the territory of the embassy late on Monday.

“We are viewing this accident as an outrageous act, behind which intentions of certain forces to thwart the normal work of the embassy and to embed elements of distrust and tensions to the bilateral relations are noticeable,” the statement of the Foreign Ministry of Russia states, Interfax-Zapad reports.

“The Russian side will press for carrying out a quick and thorough investigation into all the circumstances of this accident and for swift identification and punishment of the masterminds and perpetrators of the crime,” the document reads.

Russia expressed hope that law-enforcing agencies of Belarus “would take all necessary action to prevent similar acts in the future,” the statement of the Russian foreign political body reads.

On August 30 the Russian Embassy in Belarus was attacked by unknown assailants with fire. As noted by the Russian Foreign Ministry, no one was hurt by pure chance.

One of the fire bombs broke the glass of the service car, and the car was burnt.

The Russian Embassy in Minsk has sent a note to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry with a request to help in investigation of the crime.
