Roza Otunbayeva, the President of Kyrgyzstan, in an interview with Euronews TV channel, informed that the former president of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiyev is still staying in Belarus.
“He lives in Belarus now, he’s been offered a kind of asylum there. Recent events in North Africa allow us to see things in a different light, and we see that such people who had ordered mass killing of people, should be punished,” Roza Otunbayeva said.
To the question of the TV channel whether Kyrgyzstan would seek extradition of the fugitive dictator, Roza Otunbayeva stated: “Today we know that he is staying there. We also want his son extradited from London. And the extradition of his brothers, particularly one of them who used to be the head of the state security service. He is suspected of being at the centre of all the atrocities that took place in our country. We are not indifferent to the fact that many of our requests have been ignored by certain countries. And we are aware that some of Bakiyev’s acolytes and allies have been given refugee status, or even nationality, as a result of alleged investments made with stolen capital in other countries.”
